Стівен Содерберґ — американський кінорежисер, сценарист, продюсер і кінооператор. Коли він був ще дитиною, сім’я переселилася спочатку в Піттсбурґ, а згодом у Батон-Руж (штат Луїзіана), де його батько отримав посаду декана місцевого університету. Ще під час навчання у середній школі Стівен записується на курси аніматорів, де створює свої перші короткометражні фільми. Після закінчення школи Содерберґ переїздить у Голлівуд. Там він влаштовується на роботу позаштатного редактора, але досить швидко повертається назад додому. У Батон-Руж молодий режисер починає працювати у відеостудії, що займається виробництвом рекламних роликів і музичних відеокліпів. Водночас продовжує знімати короткометражки та писати сценарії. У 1986 році Содерберґ знімає документальний фільм про концерт групи Yes — Yes: 9012 Live, за що був номінований на премію «Греммі»
